Discover the Southern region of Mauritius

The southern part comprises the districts of Savanne and Grand-Port, and is centred on the towns of Souillac and Mahebourg. Much of the area is given over the sugarcanes, but there are still some impressive areas of preserved forest on the slopes of the Montagnes Bambous range. Also, snorkelling can be performed at the Blue Bay beach.

Mahebourg is the town closest to the airport. It is a characteristic fisherman village, and also mauritian handycraft products are available to buy.

The new waterfront complex promises some memorable walks along the sea-side. It even has a casino, mark of a developing tourism industry. There is a growing number of small inns in the city itself and the surrounding districts which cater for local and foreign visitors
